# Photo to Text — product overview

Photo to Text is a free online OCR converter at https://photototext.ai. It extracts copyable text from photos, screenshots, and PDFs, then lets you copy results or continue to Word or Excel.

## Who it is for

People who need a one-off conversion in the browser: notes from a photo, text from a screenshot, a scanned page into Word, or a receipt table into Excel. It is not a schema-based document parsing API for engineering pipelines.

## Modes

- **Simple** — Fast OCR for clear screenshots and printed pages. Costs 1 credit per image or PDF page when credits apply.
- **Advanced** — Stronger OCR for blurry photos, tilted pages, handwriting, crowded layouts, and tables. Costs 10 credits per page. Advanced can use DeepSeek OCR or GLM OCR depending on the page and picker.

## Inputs and outputs

- **Inputs:** JPG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC, and other common images; multi-page PDFs (including scanned pages).
- **Outputs:** Copyable text; download TXT / Markdown; Word (.docx); Excel / CSV / TSV on spreadsheet-focused pages.

## Privacy (guest vs signed-in)

Guest conversions do not keep images as account history. If you sign in and save Results, you can delete them anytime. Unused Results are cleared automatically after about 14 days.
